Valcartier base growing quickly

18 Aug 14THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY – 18 August 1914 – While recruiting of men continued for the units which would make up Canada’s initial contribution to the War effort in Europe, the pace of work to prepare the new military camp at Valcartier continued at a rapid pace.  Although the Permanent Force troops making up the administrative and instructional cadres were now in place, until the water service was completed, the many thousands of troops making up the First Canadian Contingent could not start arriving.  Of necessity they had to continue their preparations and preliminary training in their local armouries across Canada.
