Camp Valcartier Growing Rapidly

20 Aug 14THIS DAY IN RMR HISTORY – 20 August 1914 – Following orders at the beginning of the month to begin recruiting and get themselves organized, on the 18th of August commanding officers across Canada received further instructions.  On the 20th, unit commanders at regimental headquarters were to mobilize the troops who had volunteered and had been accepted for overseas service.  The units were then instructed to move to Valcartier Camp outside Quebec City where construction of basic facilities had been proceeding at a rapid pace to be ready to receive them. Forty five hundred troops arrived there on the 20th of August.
